I’m using macOS 15.5 and iPhone 18.5. I’ve exported an audio file and converted it to .m4r format on my Mac. The file is under 30 seconds long.
After connecting my iPhone via a lightning cable, it appeared in Finder. I followed some online instructions that suggested checking the option to ‘manually manage music, movies, and TV shows,’ and then dragging the file into that area. However, this didn’t work.
Next, I clicked on ‘Manage Storage’ at the top. A new window opened, and I selected the tones section to try dragging the file there, but again, it failed to transfer. While looking at the first Finder window, I noticed tabs; however, there was no dedicated option for ringtones.
I also opened the Music app on my Mac, where I could see my iPhone listed under devices. I attempted dragging the ringtone file into the Music app as well, but it still didn’t work. I’m confused about how to complete this simple operation.
It seems like I’ve followed the right steps, yet I’m unable to transfer the ringtone to my iPhone. Any assistance or additional steps would be greatly appreciated.
