Apple is set to announce its new iPhone 17 lineup later this fall, introducing a variety of fresh colors. The models anticipated include the ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air, the standard iPhone 17, the iPhone 17 Pro, and the iPhone 17 Pro Max. Last year’s iPhone 16 featured soft, pastel-inspired colors such as ultramarine, teal, pink, white, and black.

The absence of the vibrant yellow from the iPhone 15 was notable, with a darker blue hue replacing it. Overall, the iPhone 16 colors presented a more saturated and vivid appearance, particularly with the bolder shades of pink and ultramarine. Currently, rumors surrounding the iPhone 17 suggest testing of new purple and green color options for the base model, according to leaker Majin Bu.

Interestingly, he indicated that out of the two, only one color might make the final cut, with purple being the more likely candidate. Given Bu’s mixed track record on Apple rumors, it’s wise to take this information with caution. Details about the colors for the iPhone 17 Air remain unconfirmed.

For the iPhone 17 Pro models, Apple has traditionally adopted muted tones using titanium. The previous model offered a “Desert Titanium” alongside other color options. This year, it is rumored that the iPhone 17 Pro may feature an aluminum frame and a unique part-aluminum, part-glass design.

One exciting color expected to be unveiled is a new Sky Blue, which aligns with a shade that debuted in the recent M4 MacBook Air models. Majin Bu describes this hue as stunning and dynamic, drawing comparisons to the much-admired Sierra Blue from the iPhone 13 Pro. Apple is reportedly gearing up to unveil a redesigned iPhone model in 2027, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the original iPhone’s launch. However, recent insights from a reliable source have raised skepticism about whether this new device will truly feature an all-screen design.

Mark Gurman, in his *Power On* newsletter, previously indicated that Apple was aiming for a 20th-anniversary iPhone “without any cutouts in the display.” He highlighted the anticipation of “extraordinarily slim bezels” and “curved glass sides” encompassing the entire phone.

These expectations painted a picture of a sleek, cutting-edge design. Contrarily, Ross Young, Vice President of Counterpoint Research, has tempered these expectations.

In a recent post, he revised his timeline for the introduction of iPhones featuring both under-screen Face ID and an under-screen front camera, now predicting that these advancements will not appear until 2030. This delay suggests that the dream of an all-screen iPhone is still several years away.

Young had initially anticipated these innovations could debut as early as 2027, making this revised timeline disappointing for Apple enthusiasts. Both Gurman and Young have earned a reputation for reliability in sharing insights about Apple, yet their timelines for the inception of an all-screen iPhone now diverge.

If Young’s forecast holds true, it implies that the anticipated 20th-anniversary iPhone may not embody the revolutionary design many fans have hoped for. Historically, Gurman and Young have shared differing views on several topics.

For instance, earlier this year, Young was first to report on the cancellation of the micro-LED Apple Watch Ultra, while Gurman quipped online about his anticipated micro-LED Apple Watch before eventually verifying the cancellation. This latest discrepancy leaves Apple fans waiting for clarification as they anticipate the next iPhone release.

Rumors surrounding the iPhone 18 Pro suggest it may feature an under-screen Face ID alongside a smaller Dynamic Island. Ross Young, VP at Counterpoint Research, indicated that while there may not be a true all-screen design for the 20th-anniversary iPhone, Apple is making strides towards that goal in future models.

In a recent post, Young asserted that several new iPhones anticipated for 2026 could incorporate under-screen Face ID technology. Although he did not specify which models, it is likely he was referring to the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.

Despite the introduction of under-screen technology, Young noted that some Face ID components might still be visible, suggesting that a smaller version of the Dynamic Island will remain, albeit reduced in size compared to previous iterations. This information contrasts with an earlier report from Wayne Ma of *The Information*, stating that the iPhone 18 Pro series might contain only a small hole for the front-facing camera.

While that report hinted at the absence of a Dynamic Island, Young’s comments imply that a smaller Dynamic Island will instead be implemented. Mark Gurman from Bloomberg also revealed that some models set to launch next year will witness a reduction in the size of the Dynamic Island, corroborating the notion that the iPhone 18 will maintain a semblance of this feature.

Young remains uncertain about whether the new front camera hole will be placed in the top-left corner or stay more centered. In terms of future developments, Young forecasts that Face ID will eventually transition entirely under the screen, although this breakthrough is not expected until 2028.

Meanwhile, excitement builds for the imminent iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, set to debut in the coming months, both of which have generated significant buzz regarding their rumored features.
