Apple is anticipated to unveil a new foldable iPhone in 2026, a development source from various credible rumors has hinted at for some time. This device has been in the rumor mill for several years, but current indications point toward 2026 as the potential launch year for Apple’s first foray into foldable technology. The foldable iPhone is expected to adopt a book-style design similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold, as opposed to the clamshell design of the Galaxy Z Flip. Industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggests that when folded, the device will measure between 9 and 9.5 mm, while in the unfolded state, it is likely to be about 4.5 to 4.8 mm thick.
Recent leaks also suggest the foldable iPhone will feature dual screens: a 5.5-inch outer display and a larger 7.8-inch inner display, both boasting impressive resolutions. In terms of build, the foldable iPhone is rumored to have a titanium chassis, with its hinge made from a mix of titanium and stainless steel. Apple is said to be utilizing liquid metal in the hinge design, which may enhance durability and reduce screen creasing—common concerns with foldable devices. Camera features are also expected to include a dual-lens system on the rear and front-facing capabilities, with some speculations suggesting advanced specifications such as 48-megapixel lenses.
Additionally, Kuo predicts a shift away from Face ID in favor of Touch ID integrated into the side button to optimize space within the device. The foldable iPhone is expected to be priced between $1,800 and $2,500, which would position it as a premium device amidst Apple’s offerings. As for its official launch, mass production is anticipated in the latter half of 2026, aligning with earlier reports suggesting that Apple is preparing for a significant reveal.
