Apple recently launched tvOS 26, now available in developer beta, featuring several new enhancements primarily focused on newer Apple TV models. This major software update introduces a fresh set of capabilities aimed at improving the user experience. One of the standout features is the introduction of the new Liquid Glass design, which has also been rolled out across iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS 26, and watchOS 26. This design includes shiny app icons and translucent elements that reflect colors, although it is limited to the Apple TV 4K (2nd generation) and (3rd generation).
Additionally, the TV app has undergone a visual overhaul, exhibiting movies and TV show posters in compact vertical cards, a shift from the previous horizontal layout. This new format streamlined the look and feel of the app, optimizing space on the screen. To improve accessibility, tvOS 26 includes an optional setting that automatically displays profiles upon waking the device. This feature allows immediate access to personalized recommendations, playlists, and watchlists.
Another significant update enhances the integration of login information with Apple Accounts for supported apps, simplifying the sign-in process for users. Music enthusiasts will appreciate the Apple Music Sing karaoke feature, which now allows the use of iPhones as microphones, with sound output amplified through the TV’s speakers. Users can even use their devices to queue songs and respond with emojis. Moreover, FaceTime has received upgrades, introducing incoming call notifications and Live Captions in multiple languages.
A new feature also allows users to designate any AirPlay speaker as the default for their Apple TV. Finally, the update adds stunning Aerial screen savers captured across India. These improvements mark just the beginning of new features in tvOS 26, which is scheduled for a public release later this year and will be compatible with all Apple TV HD and Apple TV 4K models.
