With the release of iOS 26, Apple has brought significant enhancements to the iPhone experience, highlighted by the innovative Liquid Glass redesign. This update is available for all compatible devices, but certain features are exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 models due to reliance on Apple Intelligence. The unique capabilities of iOS 26 are powered by advanced on-device large language models and machine learning, which utilize the cutting-edge neural processing found in Apple’s latest A-series chips.
Users of the iPhone 15 Pro and newer can enjoy a range of features that won’t be accessible to those with older devices. Among these features is the Live Translation functionality across Apple’s communication apps, which provides seamless real-time translation in Messages, FaceTime, and Phone calls. This includes automatic message translations, live captions during FaceTime, and spoken translations during phone conversations.
Additionally, the Shortcuts app now incorporates AI features, allowing users to create images, summarize text, and receive AI responses within their workflows. The update also offers enhanced task management capabilities, with Reminders using on-device AI for task suggestions and organization. Furthermore, users can benefit from AI-generated poll suggestions in Messages and custom background creation through Image Playground integration.
Another notable addition is the AI-driven order tracking in Apple Wallet, which extracts tracking information directly from emails, simplifying the process without needing merchant involvement. iPhone 15 Pro users will also have access to new Genmoji and Image Playground features, enabling enhanced customizations with ChatGPT-powered style options. While iPhone 14 Pro users and earlier models will enjoy the visual refresh and several other iOS 26 improvements, the advanced AI functionalities remain exclusive to the most recent iPhone models.
Interestingly, the new Spatial Scenes effect offers an engaging photo experience by animating images based on device movement; however, it does not utilize Apple Intelligence and is available on iPhone 12 and newer devices.
