Kuo: iPhone 17 Pro Max to Feature Exclusive 12GB RAM Upgrade in Upcoming Year – MacRumors

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has recently claimed that the anticipated upgrade of 12GB of RAM for the iPhone 17 lineup in 2025 will be exclusive to the iPhone 17 Pro Max. This contrasts with a recent suggestion from a leaker on Weibo, who indicated that all models in the iPhone 17 series would receive the same RAM boost.

If Kuo’s prediction holds true, the smaller iPhone 17 Pro, the base iPhone 17, and the new iPhone 17 “Slim” will all remain at 8GB of RAM, which aligns with the specifications expected for the upcoming iPhone 16 lineup this year. Additionally, the fourth-generation iPhone SE, anticipated in early 2025, is also expected to feature 8GB of RAM.

The capacity of RAM in Apple’s devices has gained importance, particularly given that Apple currently considers 8GB as the minimum requirement for the advanced features of Apple Intelligence, which will debut in iOS 18. This limitation means that only the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max will fully support these new capabilities, as both the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus come with only 6GB of RAM.

While the introduction of 8GB for the upcoming iPhone 16 lineup will allow all new models to accommodate Apple Intelligence going forward, the extra 12GB could provide even more powerful AI functionalities, albeit limited to the Pro Max model. Furthermore, Kuo notes that the iPhone 17 Pro Max will feature a unique cooling system that combines vapor chamber technology with graphite sheets, while the other models in the 2025 lineup will utilize only graphite sheets for cooling purposes.
