iPhone 17 Expected to Include Significant Thermal Design Enhancements – MacRumors

The iPhone 17 lineup is expected to introduce a significant thermal design upgrade, as reported by a Chinese tech news site. According to the report, the entire range, which includes the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max, will incorporate a vapor chamber heatsink aimed at enhancing thermal performance.

This vapor chamber technology is already seen in many high-end Android devices and operates by distributing heat more evenly across a larger area. This capability helps prevent thermal throttling, ensuring consistent device performance, particularly important for slim devices.

Although the thermal challenges seen in the iPhone 15 Pro were largely addressed with the enhancements in the iPhone 16 Pro, including a new aluminum thermal substructure and graphene sheets, the iPhone 16 Pro reportedly continues to struggle under high thermal load. The addition of a vapor chamber heatsink could mitigate these issues, ultimately allowing for improved sustained performance under demanding conditions.

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had previously indicated that the iPhone 17 Pro Max would feature an exclusive cooling system that combines vapor chamber technology with graphene sheets. Notably, Kuo also stated that other models in the 2025 lineup would primarily rely on graphene sheets for cooling, suggesting some variation in thermal management between models.

As Apple progresses through its upcoming products, including the iPhone 17 series, anticipation builds around the innovations the company plans to introduce. The iPhone 17’s thermal enhancements could signal Apple’s commitment to delivering improved performance and user experience in its future devices.
