iOS 26’s Image Playground Introduces ChatGPT for Creating Anime-Style Images – MacRumors

If you’ve encountered anime-style images inspired by Studio Ghibli created using ChatGPT, you’ll be intrigued to learn that Apple has integrated this functionality into its Image Playground feature, available in iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS Tahoe. Image Playground does not create new art styles; instead, it integrates several styles from ChatGPT, such as oil painting, watercolor, vector, and anime.

These styles complement Apple’s own existing styles, including Animation, Illustration, and Sketch. Users can access these styles and experiment with different artistic expressions.

The ChatGPT options mirror the capabilities found in the ChatGPT 4o image creation feature, with anime styles being particularly popular across various social media platforms. In ChatGPT, users can request any desired style.

Apple adopts this flexibility with its “Any Style” option, allowing you to select a preferred style and include specific descriptors, even requesting realistic imagery. With Image Playground, you can generate images based on textual descriptions or transform uploaded photos into your desired styles.

However, using the ChatGPT feature necessitates granting permission for your device to send the image to ChatGPT. It’s also important to note that while Apple’s own image generation processes maintain certain guidelines, ChatGPT permits a broader range of content, including potentially problematic themes.

Users should be mindful of this difference, as Apple has clear warnings before sending images to ChatGPT, highlighting its distinct processes. Creating images through ChatGPT consumes tokens, which limits how many images you can generate if you have a free account.

A paid account is necessary for more frequent use. In contrast, Apple’s Image Playground options allow unlimited image generation.

With iOS 26, Apple also introduces the Genmoji feature, which lets you create unique emoji by combining or describing characters. This new tool significantly enhances your emoji keyboard for messaging.

Currently, iOS 26 is available for developers, but a public beta is anticipated in July, with the official release slated for September alongside new iPhone models.
