At WWDC 2025, Apple unveiled iOS 26, showcasing a significant visual redesign based on a new concept called “Liquid Glass.” This update includes enhancements to Apple Intelligence, core communication applications, and additional features aimed at improving user experience.
The “Liquid Glass” design is characterized by a translucent material that reflects and refracts surroundings to create dynamic interface elements. This new design enhances the Lock Screen, where the time adapts fluidly to the wallpaper space.
Additionally, spatial scenes provide 3D effects when users move their iPhones. The update also introduces new customization options for app icons and widgets, allowing for a striking clear appearance.
Overall, Liquid Glass aims to enhance app experiences by prioritizing content. For example, Safari pages extend edge-to-edge, while the Camera app features a simplified layout to reduce distractions.
The Photos app now has distinct Library and Collections tabs to improve organization. Apple Intelligence receives upgrades as well, with Live Translation functionality integrated into Messages, FaceTime, and Phone, allowing for real-time bilingual communication.
Furthermore, Visual Intelligence can analyze on-screen content, enabling users to search for similar items or gather information about displayed items. Communication apps have also been updated to reduce interruptions.
The unified Phone app now combines Favorites, Recents, and Voicemails for easier access, while features like Call Screening provide caller information before answering. Messages includes screening for unknown senders, custom backgrounds, and group chat features.
Additional enhancements include visual updates to CarPlay, new features in Apple Music, Maps, and Wallet, as well as the introduction of an Apple Games app designed for personalized gaming experiences. iOS 26 is currently available in developer beta, with a public beta expected next month and a full release planned for later this fall for iPhone 11 and newer models.
