Hello everyone! I’m currently attempting to partition my hard disk and have encountered several challenges. I am using Yosemite 10.10.5 on a 27-inch late 2013 iMac with a 1TB drive.
My goal is to create a small partition for the installation of Catalina, which is compatible with my Mac up to version 10.15.7. So far, I successfully created a partition of just over 80GB. Following a YouTube tutorial, I intended to download the Catalina operating system, select the newly created partition as the destination, and install it there.
However, I quickly learned that Catalina was never released as a .dmg file, which complicated my original plan. As a backup, I downloaded El Capitan from the Internet Archive, thinking I could install it first and then proceed with Catalina later. When I tried to install El Capitan on the new partition (HD2), I faced an error message stating, “OSX can’t be installed on this disk.
OSX isn’t installed.” This has left me puzzled. How is it possible that I created a partition that seemingly lacks any OSX installation?
I am unsure what steps to take next. Any advice or insights you could offer would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance for your help!
