Remembering Steve Jobs: A Tribute on MacRumors Forums

I miss Steve Jobs. The magic he brought to Apple seems to have faded. I find myself frustrated with the company’s recent trend of releasing products that feel unfinished.

Unlike in the past, when innovation reigned supreme, it appears Apple is now following the lead of companies like Google and Samsung by offering features that many users find unnecessary, such as background removal in photos. The anticipation of an official product launch has also diminished, especially with Tim Cook announcing new products just days before they become available. Where is the Apple that used to inspire awe?

The landscape of the online world has significantly shifted since Steve Jobs passed away, and so has Apple itself. It has transformed from a niche company, known for creating beautifully designed computers that perfectly balanced form and function, into a global powerhouse. I still remember the moment Jobs unveiled the first MacBook Air, a feat that sparked an immediate desire within me to own one.

Today, however, Apple’s income heavily relies on iPhones, apps, and services, leaving computers as mere secondary products that do not need much attention. The shift in focus is evident. The profile of a global juggernaut is vastly different from that of the niche company that once prioritized elegance and innovation in computers.

Personally, I fondly remember the days when Apple was smaller and more specialized, but those times are long gone. Since Jobs’ passing almost 15 years ago, the computer industry has evolved, achieving a status that demands different priorities. While I acknowledge that Macs have never been better and that Apple is thriving financially, it’s disheartening to see computers treated as afterthoughts.

The real profits now come from iPhones and services, making the hardware-centric vision of Jobs seem less relevant. Despite this change, Apple and Tim Cook have clearly succeeded even in his absence.
