Apple is set to introduce a new fourth-generation iPhone SE in March 2024, but rumors suggest that the device might be renamed. Instead of the traditional SE branding, the upcoming model could be called the iPhone 16E.
This speculation emerged from a post on Weibo by Fixed Focus Digital, a popular Chinese social media account, followed by a corroborating comment from leaker Majin Bu on X. The exact naming convention remains uncertain, as it could be represented as either “iPhone 16E” or “iPhone 16e.”
Other possibilities include variations like “iPhone 16 with an E inside a square” or even reversion to the iPhone SE title. The credibility of Fixed Focus Digital’s predictions is limited; while they accurately noted the iPhone 16 Pro’s unique bronze color, they were mistaken about specific color options for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus.
The true test of their reliability will depend on whether their claims about the iPhone SE’s design and naming hold up. The new device is anticipated to feature a design similar to the iPhone 14, which aligns with the iPhone 16’s aesthetic.
Among its rumored specifications are a 6.1-inch OLED display, Face ID, USB-C connectivity, a single 48-megapixel rear camera, updated A-series chip, and 8GB of RAM. One key aspect that remains unclear is whether the model will include an Action Button, a feature that debuted with the iPhone 15 Pro models.
Currently, the existing iPhone SE, announced in March 2022, resembles the iPhone 8 and is priced at $429 in the U.S. With the introduction of the new model, a price increase may be expected to reflect enhanced features and specifications.
