Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 Pro models are set to feature advanced vapor chamber cooling technology, enhancing their thermal performance. This information comes from a Chinese leaker, Instant Digital, who indicates that this technology aims to manage heat distribution more effectively across a larger surface area.
This improvement is particularly beneficial for maintaining performance in thinner and more compact devices, addressing potential thermal throttling issues. Rumors regarding the integration of vapor chamber heatsinks in the iPhone 17 series have circulated previously.
In January, tech news site MyDrivers reported that the entire iPhone 17 lineup—comprising the standard iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max—would utilize this technology. However, Instant Digital asserts that it will specifically be included in the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, which will be powered by the new A19 Pro chip.
This combination promises high performance under heavy usage with minimal throttling. Furthermore, Instant Digital has suggested that there will be no significant alterations to the front design of the iPhone 17 models.
The leaker predicts that upgrades will mostly focus on internal components and the back, hinting that features like notch size and bezel will remain unchanged. Another interesting development suggests that the iPhone 17 Pro Max may sport a smaller Dynamic Island.
This aligns with earlier predictions by analyst Jeff Pu, who has a notable track record in Apple-related forecasts. However, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo disagreed, stating that the Dynamic Island will likely remain the same across the iPhone 17 lineup.
Additionally, the iPhone 17 Pro’s rear camera design is reportedly undergoing a transformation, moving away from the conventional square bump to a new aluminum camera bar that spans the device’s width. This redesign will also be present in the new iPhone 17 Air model, which is set to replace the Plus variant.
The base iPhone 17 will retain the camera design reminiscent of the iPhone 16 series, thereby distinguishing Apple’s premium offerings from the standard models. Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 17 series next September.
