  • Current Prices for AirPods Pro: Great Deals Available on MacRumors Forums!

Amazon is currently offering a significant discount on the AirPods Pro 2, which are available for just $169, down from the regular price of $249. This represents an $80 savings, making it an excellent opportunity for those seeking high-quality noise-canceling earbuds. For Amazon Prime members, expedited delivery options are available, often allowing for overnight shipping in many areas.

At this discounted price, the AirPods Pro 2 are the second lowest we have seen this year, prompting many to consider making a purchase. As speculation mounts regarding the release of the AirPods Pro 3 later this year, it’s worth noting that they are unlikely to be offered at a price as low as $169. Due to the popularity of these deals, stocks may deplete quickly, so interested buyers are encouraged to act fast.

  • Upcoming iOS 26 Public Beta Looks Likely Following Recent Clue

An anonymous leaker known for reliable information recently disclosed build numbers for the fourth developer betas of iOS 26 and several other Apple operating systems. This account on X has a history of accurately revealing Apple’s software updates, though we refrain from sharing the account details as per the owner’s request. The leaked build numbers are as follows:

    – iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 beta 4 (23A5297i)
    – macOS 26 beta 4 (25A5316i)
    – tvOS 26 and HomePod Software 26 beta 4 (23J5316g)
    – watchOS 26 beta 4 (23R5317g)
    – visionOS 26 beta 4 (23M5300g)

According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, a public beta release is expected around Wednesday, July 23.

However, it should be noted that no public beta will be available for visionOS 26 as stated on Apple’s beta website. In an unrelated incident, Apple inadvertently allowed some users to access the macOS 26 public beta briefly earlier today. Notably, the build number matched that of the fourth developer beta of macOS 26, indicating that the upcoming public betas will likely coincide with the fourth developer versions.

Though Apple previously announced that public betas would be available in July, specific dates have not been provided. Additionally, plans for a public beta of a significant AirPods firmware update have also emerged. Anyone interested in participating in the Apple Beta Software Program can sign up for free, gaining access to public betas as they become available.

As always, it is advisable for users to back up their devices prior to installing any beta software to prevent potential issues.

  • Will I retain my Hermes faces when upgrading to the Ultra?

    Hello,

I currently own the Series 8 Hermes watch and am thinking about upgrading to the Ultra 3 when it launches. One question I have is whether my account will allow me to keep the exclusive watch faces after switching from Hermes-branded hardware. While this isn’t a dealbreaker for me, I am genuinely curious about it.

Additionally, I’m not interested in purchasing the Hermes version of the Ultra 3, as the extra cost for just the branding seems excessive. I plan to continue using my Hermes bands, which I enjoy, regardless of the watch model I choose. Thank you for your help!

  • When is it beneficial to choose 24GB RAM instead of 16GB?

When considering an upgrade from 16GB to 24GB of memory in lighter-use machines such as MacBook Airs and budget-friendly Mac Minis, it’s essential to evaluate your specific use cases. Besides intensive photo editing and modern gaming, many users wonder when additional RAM truly becomes necessary. For most standard tasks, including web browsing, word processing, and streaming, 16GB of RAM generally suffices.

Even with demanding applications like Baldur’s Gate 3, I found my M1 MacBook Air with 16GB RAM performed reasonably well, albeit with reduced graphics settings. Thus, if your usage aligns with typical daily tasks or older games, you might not notice significant performance degradation. However, consider your workflow: if you routinely use multiple applications simultaneously or engage in less common tasks such as virtual machines or heavy multitasking, the upgrade to 24GB might be beneficial.

The financial aspect of this upgrade—a $300 Canadian price tag—must also be factored into the decision. With your current usage, the return on investment may not justify the cost. Looking to the future, the longevity of 16GB will depend heavily on software evolution and your personal computing habits.

In general, for average users, 16GB should remain adequate for several years. However, if software becomes more resource-intensive or if you develop new interests that require additional RAM, you may find yourself needing to upgrade sooner than you expect. Therefore, if you can manage within your current setup without significant strain, it might be wiser to hold off on the upgrade for the time being.

  • Urgent Computer Upgrade Needed, but My Eyes Aren’t Helping

I’m really struggling with my 2010 iMac, which is long overdue for an upgrade. Unfortunately, I’ve experienced significant eye fatigue, straining, and burning whenever I attempt to use new monitors.

Initially, I thought it was just a matter of adjusting to the changes, but after a month of trying various screens—around a dozen, including the studio display—my eyes still can’t seem to adapt. I’ve realized that the matte-coated monitors contribute significantly to my discomfort.

Interestingly, I don’t face these issues when using my iPhone 12, iPad, or even while watching TV. However, every external monitor I’ve tried has caused problems.

I even tested the Alogic Clarity but encountered the same frustrations. I’ve made numerous adjustments to try and alleviate the strain, such as lowering the resolution to 1440p, changing color profiles, using f.lux, reducing backlight brightness, and even having my eyes checked.

Yet, while I can use my iMac for 16 hours straight without any fatigue, any other monitor brings pain within just 20 minutes. I’m also puzzled about whether newer monitors have more vibrant colors that could be harmful.

I attempted to switch to a black and white display, but that didn’t help either. Are there new coatings in modern Apple monitors that might be different from those used previously?

My iMac’s hard drive is on the verge of failing for the second time, and I’m desperate to upgrade to a new computer rather than continue using this outdated machine. I’ve considered the 24″ M4, but I’m uncertain if it would perform better than the studio display that disappointed me.

I feel utterly lost trying to find a suitable monitor option.

  • iOS 18.6 RC: Updates on Bug Fixes, Changes, and Improvements

iOS 18.6 RC is set for release on July 21, 2025, with a build number of 22G84. This release will include updates on the Darwin Kernel, along with features focusing on user experience and stability.

Developers and testers are encouraged to report any bugs via the Feedback app. For those who have reverted their settings to “None” for beta programs, accessing the Feedback app can still be done through a specific URL entered in Safari.

To install the beta version over-the-air, users should enable Beta Updates through their device settings, ensuring that they are logged into the correct Apple account. After selecting the desired beta type—either public or developer—users can refresh the software update option to begin the installation process.

It’s advisable to back up devices to either a computer or iCloud prior to installation. Once the beta is installed, turning off Beta Updates is an option as well.

For Mac users, the process requires either the Xcode beta or a MobileDevice.pkg file to facilitate installation. Users must also ensure they back up their devices beforehand.

Holding the Option key while checking for updates allows you to choose the appropriate IPSW file downloaded from the Apple Developer website. Remember, restoring an iPhone will wipe all data, so maintaining a backup is essential.

The list of compatible devices with respective version numbers includes models from the iPhone 16 series down to the iPhone XS. Network compatibility details are also provided for various carriers across different regions, ensuring users know their version numbers for connectivity.

Lastly, it’s crucial to keep track of historical beta releases and updates to understand the evolution of iOS versions.

  • MacRumors Forums for Wine and Beer Lovers: Share Your Passions and Discover New Favorites!

The Russian River Valley is gaining a reputation for its exceptional Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Recently, I’ve also delved into Viognier, Marsanne, and Roussanne, exploring both their individual expressions and blends. I’ve had the privilege of tasting exquisite wines from regions like Pauillac and Margaux.

Chateau Margaux stands out as a dream wine for me, and I would love the opportunity to savor a glass one day. While I have yet to experience any Premiers Crus—except for a delightful Sauternes—I fondly remember enjoying a 1982 Château Rauzan-Ségla, which is a Deuxièmes Crus. It was quite some time ago, but sharing that bottle with my father left a lasting impression.

Although I primarily drink wine casually, I always appreciate a well-crafted cabernet sauvignon. Although my primary preferences lie with whiskey, scotch, and beer, there are two standout beers that come to mind: Chimay Grande Reserve (Blue) and Aventinus Eisbock. I enjoy IPAs and Ambers, while I tend to shy away from dark porters.

When it comes to wine, I have a particular fondness for Bas-Médoc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Riesling from Rheinhessen. Living close to Belgium means I never lack for excellent brews. Over the last decade, I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the rise of American Craft Beer, which has transformed significantly since the 1980s.

I appreciate a wide range of styles, including Belgian, English, and American ales, though fruit beers are not my preference. One of my favorites is Stone’s Arrogant Bastard Ale. As for food pairings, my approach tends to depend on the dish.

Traditional pairing rules are a helpful guideline, but I’ve enjoyed red wine with poultry on occasion. I often wonder how red wine might complement fish or sushi.
