iOS 19 Leak Suggests New Design Features: Rounded App Icons and Floating Tab Bar Unveiled – MacRumors

The YouTube channel Front Page Tech has returned with a new video that delves into the rumored design changes of iOS 19. In this episode, host Jon Prosser showcases re-created renders of the upcoming software update, which are reportedly influenced by actual footage from Apple sources. iOS 19 is anticipated to introduce a more glass-like, visionOS-inspired aesthetic, emphasizing translucency in user interface elements such as buttons, menus, and notifications. A significant detail highlighted in the video is the potential for rounder app icons.

While Prosser is uncertain whether these icons will be completely circular like those in visionOS, he explains that they are hidden by default in the current iOS 19 builds. By long-pressing a squircle app icon, users may trigger an animation that reveals the rounder design, suggesting that Apple intends to keep this change under wraps until the official announcement. Additionally, the video presents claims of a pill-shaped tab bar at the bottom of key built-in apps, including App Store, Apple Music, and Messages. The search tab features an elongated search bar alongside a circular button for returning to the expanded tab bar.

The visual changes also include new animations when switching tabs. In the Messages app, the design updates feature a persistent search bar, while the renders indicate more rounded corners for various elements, including Haptic Touch menus and sliders in the Control Center. Permission prompts for camera and microphone access have also received a makeover. Prosser has previously shared mockups of the rumored Camera app, and these design changes extend to the Settings app and the default keyboard as well.

Lastly, iOS 19 may add subtle lighting effects to enhance its glass-like appearance, such as the shimmering Flashlight and Camera controls on the Lock Screen. The first beta of iOS 19 is expected to be released following the WWDC keynote on June 9, with a full launch slated for September.
