Apple is set to announce the iPhone 17 series in September, and there are intriguing differences expected between the Pro and Pro Max models this year. Traditionally, the Pro Max variant has been larger than its Pro counterpart. This year’s expected dimensions are as follows: the iPhone 17 Pro is anticipated to feature a 6.3-inch display, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max could boast a 6.9-inch display. One notable aspect of the Pro Max model is its increased internal space, which allows for a larger battery and, consequently, extended battery life.
This year, whispers suggest that the iPhone 17 Pro Max may be around 5% thicker than the iPhone 16 Pro Max. This thickness increase is likely to accommodate an even larger battery, potentially elevating its capacity to approximately 5,000 mAh—up from the 4,676 mAh found in the previous model. In contrast, the iPhone 17 Pro is not expected to exceed the thickness of the iPhone 16 Pro. Rumors also indicate that both models will share similar camera systems, featuring a trio of 48-megapixel rear cameras and an upgraded 24-megapixel front camera.
Unlike in some previous years, no distinct camera features have been rumored for the Pro Max that would set it apart from the Pro this time around. There was initial speculation about a smaller Dynamic Island on the iPhone 17 Pro Max; however, it appears that any such change might be postponed for future models. If implemented this year, reports suggest that the smaller Dynamic Island could appear across all iPhone 17 models. In summary, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max is likely to offer enhancements in display size and battery life, it may not diverge much from the iPhone 17 Pro in other significant ways.
