Apple’s latest update introduces the Liquid Glass design, which is immediately noticeable on the Home Screen when you unlock your iPhone. Users can customize the extent of these changes, resulting in several new features for the iPhone’s main interface.
The Liquid Glass design features app icons with a layered appearance, giving them a translucent, glass-like quality. This effect is especially evident in icons for native apps such as Safari, Maps, Photos, and the App Store.
Third-party app icons are also adopting this aesthetic. The dock now appears transparent, seamlessly blending into the background.
In addition, app folders have a frosted glass look that changes tint based on the wallpaper. The buttons used for editing the Home Screen are also transparent, creating a cohesive interface.
The Liquid Glass effect works in both Light and Dark Modes. Apple has rebranded Light Mode to “Default Mode,” allowing users to adjust colors through a customizable interface.
New toggles for “Always” and “Auto” let users set permanent Light or Dark themes or change them according to the time of day. The Tinted Mode features a more vibrant color palette compared to previous versions, with lighter shades adopted in Light Mode and darker shades in Dark Mode.
Additionally, a new “Clear” icon option presents a fully transparent liquid glass look that matches your wallpaper, with white graphics. Widgets maintain a similar aesthetic to previous versions but offer a more unified design when the Clear option is selected.
Users can now edit their wallpaper directly from the Home Screen in iOS 26, with options to change images and apply various effects. The wallpaper affects interface elements like the dock and icons, creating a more integrated look.
Control Center has also embraced the Liquid Glass design, featuring larger icons that appear as frosted glass. Other elements, such as Dynamic Island and Notification Center, maintain their aesthetic while enhancing user experience.
Lastly, web apps can now be added to the Home Screen without requiring developers to configure them, marking a streamlined improvement in functionality. This update emphasizes a fresh visual style and improved interaction for iPhone users.
